During the National Day holiday, Xinjiang Airport Group’s passenger throughput exceeded one million for the first time
On October 9, a spokesperson from the Xinjiang Airport Group unveiled some exciting travel statistics for the upcoming National Day holiday. From October 1 to 7, 2024, the group is projecting to welcome more than 1 million passengers for the first time, with an estimated total of 1.068 million travelers.
During this holiday period, the Xinjiang Airport Group also expects to manage 5,613 tons of cargo and mail, supporting a total of 8,518 flights. Notably, Urumqi International Airport is preparing to greet over 600,000 passengers, which marks a 2.6% increase compared to last year’s figures.
The busiest travel day is anticipated to be October 1, with over 165,000 passengers expected to fly that day. The majority of these travelers are likely to be tourists and those visiting family, with outbound travelers expected to outnumber arrivals. Popular domestic destinations within Xinjiang include Kashgar, Korla, Yining, and Aksu. Furthermore, 20 airports across the region—including Urumqi, Turpan, Kashgar, and Korla—are set to surpass passenger traffic levels from the previous year. Kashgar Lain International Airport, in particular, is projected to serve over 100,000 passengers during the holiday, reflecting an impressive 11.6% increase and a remarkable 34.9% growth year-on-year.
In response to the rising demand for more convenient travel options, the Xinjiang Airport Group has ramped up flight schedules connecting local airports with Urumqi and introduced direct flights to major cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, and Xi’an. Additionally, several service enhancements have been rolled out, including improved overnight transfers and expedited security checks, all aimed at elevating the travel experience for passengers.
