2024 China International Mining Conference opens in Tianjin

On October 15, 2024, the 26th China International Mining Conference kicked off in Tianjin, drawing nearly 10,000 delegates from over 40 countries, regions, and international organizations. Close to 400 domestic and international companies are showcasing their offerings at this year’s event.

The conference theme, “Promoting Mining Cooperation Together for a Better Future,” aims to foster a global consensus on mining cooperation and advance the prosperity of the industry worldwide.

Tianjin, located at the intersection of land and maritime routes in the Belt and Road Initiative, has hosted this conference for the past 15 years. In his opening remarks, Tianjin Mayor Zhang Gong highlighted the city’s unique transportation advantages. He pointed out that Tianjin serves as the maritime gateway for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the “Three Norths” area, with its port connecting to over 180 countries and regions through more than 500 ports. The port handles a vast array of goods, including iron ore, non-ferrous metals, and coal, boasting a cargo throughput among the top ten globally. Additionally, there are 147 container shipping routes, with an annual throughput exceeding 22 million TEUs, ranking eighth in the world.

This year’s conference features a range of highlights, with multiple forums and promotional events focusing on new developments in geological surveys, current trends in mining, innovative theories, technologies, and equipment in mining development, investment and trade opportunities, geological collaboration related to the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as discussions on new energy minerals.

The conference is organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Tianjin People’s Government, and is hosted by the China Mining Federation, running from October 15 to 18.
