A 100 million dollar superyacht made headlines recently after a significant accident in Tunisia, where it collided with a dock, causing extensive damage. The yacht, known as the “Kingdom 5KR,” is owned by Saudi billionaire Al-Waleed bin Talal and was previously owned by former U.S. President Donald Trump, under whom it was renamed “Trump Princess.” The vessel has even made an appearance in a James Bond film.
According to reports from the New York Post, the incident occurred on October 11 at the Marina of Bizerte. The yacht miscalculated its docking process, crashing into a breakwater on the starboard side and becoming lodged at the dock. Witnesses stated that the anchor had already been deployed prior to the crash, which caused the bow of the yacht to scrape against the port.
A tweet from Tounes El Khadra mentioned that the “Kingdom 5KR,” measuring 88 meters long, suffered substantial damage during the mishap, attributed to a loss of control by the captain.
The Yacht Report YouTube channel highlighted the prestigious history of this superyacht. Originally built in 1980 for arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, it was first named “Nabila.” Before ending up with Prince Al-Waleed, the yacht was owned by the Sultan of Brunei and Trump, who purchased it in 1988.
Beyond its illustrious ownership, the yacht has made a splash in pop culture; it appeared in the 1983 Bond film “Never Say Never Again” as the villain’s headquarters. With accommodations for 22 guests and 31 crew members, it features 11 guest rooms, six massive refrigerators, five decks, a large swimming pool, a cinema, a beauty salon, a disco, a library, and even a hospital equipped with a surgery room.
The vessel has a maximum speed of 20 knots and is currently under investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
