The National Medical Insurance Administration named 7 hospitals for suspected illegal use of medical insurance funds
On October 16, the National Healthcare Security Administration revealed a series of alarming issues regarding seven hospitals in Huainan City, Anhui Province. These facilities were found to be involved in fraudulent activities related to the use of health insurance funds, including luring financially challenged individuals into unnecessary hospitalizations and conducting eye care services without qualified personnel or proper equipment.
One of the key offenders, Nantang Huimin Hospital in Shouxian, Huainan, is accused of enticing patients to stay in the hospital under the guise of “free hospitalization.” They reportedly signed agreements with local nursing homes to funnel patients to the hospital, compensating the nursing homes for each admission. Moreover, the hospital is suspected of fabricating medical services and forging physician signatures to defraud insurers. Notably, one doctor’s name was purportedly used to generate 3,433 imaging reports, despite the fact that this doctor never worked at the facility.
Kangde Hospital in Huainan faces serious allegations as well, including conducting diagnostic procedures without the necessary qualifications. The imaging department was found to be operated by uncredentialed staff performing CT and DR examinations while using the signatures of qualified doctors to issue diagnostic reports. This hospital also allegedly engaged in unlicensed anesthesia practices and provided illegitimate traditional Chinese medicine services.
Ren Ci Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, also in Shouxian, is under scrutiny for inflating quantities of medical supplies for insurance claims. They collected fees for artificial lenses that were never used and conducted medical services without possessing the required apparatus or qualified ophthalmologists. Some patients received unnecessary hospital treatment, raising concerns over potential over-treatment.
Additional establishments, such as the Zhiyanguan Town Nan Community Health Service Station and Yimin Hospital, are implicated in fabricating laboratory tests and charging multiple fees for the same service. Moreover, Xiehe Hospital has been flagged for excessive testing and prescribing practices, while the Laonian Nursing Home Rehabilitation Hospital has been cited for excessive, unauthorized treatment services.
Authorities are currently advancing the investigation into these cases. The healthcare insurance department in Huainan is conducting special inspections across all designated medical institutions in an effort to enforce compliance and promote responsible usage of health insurance funds.
