Zelensky’s talks with Shikel were ineffective, Downing Street- Ukraine is not allowed to use long-range missiles to attack Russia
During a recent visit to London on October 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Downing Street. The discussion primarily revolved around seeking continued military support from the West and advancing Ukraine’s “victory plan,” which includes the ability to use military aid to conduct deeper strikes against Russia. Unfortunately, officials from Downing Street confirmed that the UK has not lifted its restrictions on the use of long-range missiles by Ukraine.
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Sunak stated, “No war is won by a single weapon,” reiterating that the government’s policy on long-range missile usage remains unchanged. The government is exploring other avenues to support Ukraine.
New NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also participated in trilateral talks with Sunak and Zelensky and held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister.
Rutte emphasized that, from a legal standpoint, Ukraine can target Russian territory. However, decisions on whether to permit the use of Western military aid for such actions are left up to individual nations. When asked if any decisions had been made regarding Ukraine’s use of Western weapons for deeper strikes, Rutte replied that there had been no changes in policy, and decisions continue to rest with NATO’s member states. He also noted that no single weapon system would alter the situation significantly.
