On October 22, a statement from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) revealed alarming findings regarding cosmetic products. The agency disclosed that 49 batches of cosmetics were found to be non-compliant with regulations, as reported on their official website.
During the 2024 national sampling inspection of cosmetics, testing conducted by institutions such as the Fujian Provincial Institute for Food and Drug Quality Inspection and Research showed that products labeled as manufactured by Guangzhou Xiehe Biopharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd., including the “Banxiaojian Skin Whitening Isolation Sunscreen,” did not meet the required standards.
In accordance with the Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulations, the NMPA is taking decisive action. They have instructed the pharmaceutical supervision departments in Shanghai, Guangdong, and Yunnan provinces to launch investigations into the registrants, recorders, and contracted manufacturers associated with these non-compliant products. These organizations are mandated to implement immediate risk control measures and conduct self-inspections.
Furthermore, provincial drug supervision departments are requiring cosmetic retailers to halt the sale of the affected products and investigate their purchase and inspection records. Any illegal activities discovered will be strictly addressed, and cases that may involve criminal offenses will be forwarded to law enforcement authorities.
This announcement underscores the NMPA’s commitment to maintaining product safety and compliance in the cosmetic industry.
