The Guangdong Procuratorate prosecuted Zheng Jiange for suspected bribery in accordance with the law
According to a report from the High People’s Procuratorate, on October 23, the former Deputy Secretary of the Shantou Municipal Committee and former Mayor of Shantou, Zheng Jiange, is facing charges of bribery. The case has been designated for prosecution by the Guangdong Provincial People’s Procuratorate and has been forwarded to the Jiangmen Municipal People’s Procuratorate, which has filed an indictment with the Jiangmen Intermediate People’s Court. The case is currently under further investigation.
During the prosecution phase, the legal rights of the defendant, Zheng Jiange, were duly communicated, and he was interrogated in accordance with the law while also hearing the opinions of his defense counsel. The Jiangmen Municipal People’s Procuratorate has accused Zheng Jiange of using his various official positions—in municipalities such as Zhanjiang, Zhaoqing, and Shantou—to exploit his authority for personal gain. It is alleged that he unlawfully accepted significant sums of money and property from individuals and entities in return for facilitating advantageous conditions related to business operations, project acquisition, and personnel repositioning. The charges carry substantial legal ramifications, as the amount of illicit gains is characterized as exceptionally large, warranting strict criminal responsibility under bribery laws.
