Altay, Xinjiang- Moral people’s good deeds light up the light of hope for students in need

In Urumqi, Xinjiang, there exists a remarkable group of individuals who quietly illuminate the hopes of many struggling students. This inspiring initiative is the Sparking Hope Public Welfare Team, founded by police officer Feng Yubao in Altay City.

For years, the team has rooted itself in love, fostering deep and moving stories through their unwavering dedication and compassion.

**From One Dream to Collective Action**

It all began in the summer of 2015 when Feng Yubao had a casual conversation with friends that sowed the seeds for a public welfare initiative focused on educational support. He proposed that they establish the Sparking Hope Public Welfare Team.

“Let’s each donate 50 yuan a month to support academically gifted children from underprivileged families in pursuing their educational dreams,” Feng suggested.

Thanks to the team’s support, sisters Qader’a and Nabiyula have found their educational journeys much less daunting. In 2020, Qader’a successfully gained admission to the Nankai University Law School from Hangzhou Normal University Affiliated High School, but due to financial hardships, she struggled to pay her tuition.

With the assistance of the Sparking Hope Team, Qader’a was able to enroll and receive continuous support. Today, she has successfully graduated and is embarking on a new chapter in her life.

“I didn’t know how to ask for help at first, but after Brother Feng visited my home to understand our situation, he encouraged me to go to school. He assured me that he would help me achieve my dream of going to college,” Qader’a shared.

She is not alone; many students have benefited from the Sparking Hope Team’s aid. Since its inception in 2015, the team has supported 15 students from 11 struggling families, with six of them having already graduated from university.

The team adheres to strict financial management practices, ensuring transparency by publishing an annual financial report at the end of each year.

**Finding the Power of Kindness and Positivity**

Feng Yubao, born in the 1980s to a humble farming family in Altay, was inspired by his parents’ generosity during his childhood. Determined to contribute to society, he joined the police force in 2010.

“Our tutoring team continually welcomes new members, and we currently have 91 people involved,” Feng noted.

Whenever Feng encounters someone in need, he personally investigates their circumstances, often doing so after work or on holidays. “I need to verify the true situation of those requiring assistance, especially for families in dire straits; we act swiftly to provide help,” he explained.

Starting a public welfare initiative is one thing; maintaining it is another, as perseverance is key. Every event requires significant time and effort, but Feng’s passion for philanthropy drives him to continue.

“In reality, those of us involved in charity gain just as much as we give. Helping others enhances our own sense of happiness and fulfillment,” Feng expressed, emphasizing that philanthropy is both a joyful and meaningful endeavor for him.

**Reflecting on Life’s Meaning**

Upon meeting Feng Yubao, the founder of the Sparking Hope Team, one cannot help but notice his dark complexion and the joyous energy he radiates. Under his leadership, the team has grown tremendously, comprising members from various backgrounds who bring warmth and hope to those in need.

“Every expense and every child’s sponsorship is shared in our group. Although it’s a grassroots organization, it operates very systematically,” shared teacher Liu, a team member. Former beneficiaries of the program have also joined the team, perpetuating the cycle of kindness.

Beyond educational assistance, Feng and his team organize various public welfare activities, including initiatives to support sanitation workers and provide warmth to children in remote mountainous areas.
