On the evening of the 26th, the Israel Defense Forces reported that by 11 PM local time, approximately 190 rockets had been fired by Hezbollah militants from Lebanon into Israeli territory.
That same evening, air raid sirens were activated in several northern Israeli locations, including Galilee, Metula, Manara, Margaliot, and Shimon.
Hezbollah also issued a statement confirming they had targeted the Shimon settlement in northern Israel with rocket attacks that night.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, had reignited in October of last year, prompting Hezbollah to engage with Israeli forces along the Lebanon-Israel border in support of Hamas. Tensions escalated in September after a major explosion of communication equipment in Lebanon and the death of Hezbollah’s then-leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, during an Israeli airstrike.
In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched ground operations in southern Lebanon on the 1st of this month, continuing aerial strikes in Beirut and other areas. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has persistently targeted northern Israel with rockets and artillery fire.
According to the latest figures from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, this round of conflict has resulted in over 2,500 deaths and around 12,000 injuries in Lebanon. The United Nations has reported that the fighting has displaced 1.2 million people in Lebanon, with more than 400,000 of them being children.
