On the evening of October 22, the Jilin Northeast Tigers secured their third consecutive win in the 2024-2025 season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) by defeating Shanxi Fenjiu with a score of 130 to 119 during the fifth round of the regular season.

The visiting team, Shanxi, quickly found their rhythm, racing to a 7-2 lead at the start. However, Jilin’s Jiang Yuxing responded with a well-timed cut to stabilize the team’s momentum. Following that, Jilin managed to catch up, ending the first quarter with an 8-point lead over Shanxi.

In the second quarter, Shanxi came back strong, scoring the first 6 points. Jilin’s Li An stepped up, sinking both free throws, and their foreign player, Jones, made impressive plays, including a crucial “2+1” opportunity. The two teams exchanged scores before Jilin finished the half ahead at 63-61.

As play resumed, Jilin struggled offensively, allowing Shanxi to seize the lead. After the third quarter, Jilin found themselves trailing Shanxi by 4 points. However, in the final quarter, Jilin intensified their outside shooting, with Li An hitting a key three-pointer and Jiang Weize going a perfect three for three at the free-throw line. Despite Shanxi’s late-game surge, they couldn’t secure a comeback.

Jones had a standout performance for Jilin, scoring 42 points along with 9 rebounds and 12 assists, while Li An contributed 17 points and 8 rebounds. For Shanxi, Zhang Ning led with 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.

In a post-game interview, Jilin’s head coach Zhong Cheng expressed his pride in the players’ relentless drive for victory, noting their unwavering effort on the court, which truly moved him.

Previously, in the third round, the Jilin Northeast Tigers defeated Fujian Jinjiang with a score of 124 to 109, and in the fourth round, they overcame Jiangsu Kentiya with a 107 to 101 victory. Jilin will host Shandong Qingdao Guoxin Pharmaceutical on October 24, looking to extend their winning streak.
